Ithaka (Artstor & JSTOR)

Vendor Description

Artstor was initiated by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to use digital technology. Artstor is a nonprofit with a mission to use digital technology to enhance scholarship, teaching and learning in the arts and associated fields.

The Artstor Digital Library is an authoritative resource of images in the humanities, aggregated from the worlds museums, libraries, archives, scholars, and artists and artist's estates and accessible all in one place. Artstor provides its users with:

  • 2.5 million images from the world’s museums and archives, cross-searchable in one place
  • Authoritative data direct from contributing institutions
  • Specialized tools for viewing, sharing, and teaching
  • All images are copyright cleared for use in education
  • Easy image citations, PPT downloads, and more!

In 2016, Artstor announced a strategic alliance with ITHAKA. As a result, institutions who license the Artstor Digital Library are now also able to surface image results from Artstor (1.7 million images and growing) on the JSTOR search platform.

JSTOR Forum is a user-friendly solution that allows you to manage, describe, and distribute your institution’s collections and projects to increase discoverability and use. This user-friendly tool provides an affordable option for sharing your institution's scholarly content on your own campus and beyond.
